May I Recommend - Kings of Leon

Image
Back in May I was lucky enough to see Kings of Leon live in concert and they were amazing to say the least. The coolest thing about the Kings of Leon concert was that my husband and I traveled to a different city than the one we live in to see them. We didn’t know a single other person at that concert but that didn’t matter. When you get into a space with people that love the music as much as you do, you quickly become friends…just for those few hours…and rock out together, never caring how you look or sound, just getting lost in the music. For me, that is the best thing about a live show. I love it when the crowd has their hands over their heads clapping in unison. Or when the band starts to play and lets the crowd sing the song. These are the times when I stop rockn’ out for a minute to take it all in, to remember how I’m feeling at that moment and make it last forever - days, weeks, years after the concert is over. And every time I YouTube a live concert or put in one of those conce...

Pepperoni Please, But Hold The Pepperoni

Image
Is it weird that I love pepperoni pizza but I take off all the pepperonis and don’t eat them? I have been doing this for as long as I can remember. There is something about processed meat that revolts me but I love the flavor their grease leaves behind. Um…that sounds pretty gross when I say it out loud. It’s kind of like food cheating. You know, when you take a square and cut it into quarters promising that you will only eat one of those quarters. Oh but what’s another quarter? They’re just little bite sized pieces, and when you cut the square into quarters like that you’re cutting the calories…right? When I take off the pepperonis I am still left with the flavor minus the actual meat. Does that still count? I do all kinds of strange things like this…no, let’s call them quirky things…not strange. It’s what makes me, well, me. Throughout future blogs you will pick up on other quirks of mine. Believe me; I have a lot of them.

My New Favorite Thing - Reading Movie Scripts

Image
A few days ago I tweeted ( www.twitter.com/charleewith2es ) about a blog I found one night while surfing the web. It was called ScriptShadow. I can’t remember exactly how I stumbled upon it, but I’m so happy that I did. I love movies…no, really….I LOVE movies. I watch a couple movies a week. It’s my favorite thing to do. I can’t deal with movie talkers. You know those people that talk during a movie or ask questions. No asking questions…just watch! I love getting lost in a movie. I love the feeling you get when you are really into a movie or the characters. I’ll watch a movie several times over just to get that feeling again. Some people don’t understand the point to that. In their mind, you’ve seen it once already, you know what’s going to happen, why watch it again? But that’s me. When I find something I really like I almost become obsessed with it. I’ll do everything to learn more about it…throwing myself into information overload. I can’t help it. I do it with everything. If I hear...

Life Imitating Art

Image
It seems to happen quite often and more so with the younger generation of actors. The cast of Gossip Girl has this one covered. You’ve got Penn & Blake, Ed & Jessica, Leighton & Sebastian. Well, if anything, it must be convenient. I’ve heard some people comparing the “Hollywood” scene to high school. Makes sense if you really think about it. When you’re on top of your game you’re usually paired up with others who are on top of their game. You work together, present at awards shows together, get asked to the same parties and events. The circles start getting pretty small and these people become your “friends”. Some actors say that when you become a character for the length of the shoot, the process is so intense that at times, yes, maybe you do start to develop feelings for the person you are playing opposite and it may become hard to draw the line between reality and script. I mean hell, it’s your job to spend however many hours a day “pretending” that you are in love wit...

The Always Present Welcoming Committee

Image
I was at a tradeshow a few years ago that was held on the grounds of Walt Disney World in Florida. Each night of the conference the organizers put on “events” for the attendees. One evening after the park shut down for the night, they re-opened it for all the conference attendees. We had free reign over everything. We could go on any ride for free, walk up to any food vendor and have whatever we wanted for free. Since it was a smaller group of people than an average park day attendance there were no lineups either. I kid you not. If you liked a ride you could run right back to the start and do it all over again. At the beginning of the evening we all piled on coach buses that took up to the “gate”. As we walked off the bus there was a red carpet rolled out and about one hundred people behind barriers, taking our picture and yelling out stuff like “we love you”, “you’re amazing” and random nonsense like that. I’ll admit, it was really strange. It felt so weird to have so many people y...

You Won Me Over Red Wine

Image
I have decided that I like Red Wine now. I would never drink it before. Even the smell of it would bring on a headache. Then I got older and all of the sudden I started enjoying foods & beverages that I never liked before. The first red wine that I really enjoyed (as in I finished it and wanted a second glass) was a brand called "Cakebread". It's a Californian wine that runs about $80 a bottle. Of course I liked it. I have an uncanny ability to be drawn towards things that are too expensive for my pocketbook. Over the past few months I have been slowly dipping my taste buds in the wine barrels to see which flavor I most enjoy. It has been a fun experiment to say the least. I will be sure to update the blog with a recommendations. I feel like a grown up now.

Religulous

I watched Bill Maher's documentary "Religulous" last night. It was fantastic. Definitely one of those movies that makes you think and question. According to Maher, the title of the film is a portmanteau derived from the words "religion" and "ridiculous". It's worth a watch Check out the trailer for it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eZpREDn4NFA
