I must be old, because they’re back

Do you ever have moments when you look back on your personal fashion history and cringe? Of course you do. Come on. We lived through the eighties and nineties. There is a time in my fashion history that I look back on and shrivel up with embarrassment. I’m happy we didn’t take as many pictures back then as we do today. I’m happy the only evidence of this fashion faux pas resides in my memory. Remember when all us girls wore little plaid skirts with socks that went up over our knees? Remember when sometimes those socks were crazy colors or they had so called ‘funky’ designs on them? Don’t get me wrong, they looked great on some girls. Not so great on me. But, since I was big on ‘must fit in,’ I just had to have these over the knee socks and I just had to wear them like all the other girls. Problem. My legs were like twigs. Seriously. There were times when some people actually called me Olive Oil, you know, Popeye’s wife. They called me that because of my sticks for legs and arms. They ...

Designer Shades

I never cared much for designer sunglasses. I mean, I thought they were cool, and would love to have them, but I could never bring myself to spending the money on them. Instead I would settle for the cheaper knock off versions, knowing I would scratch the hell out of the lenses, break off the arms, lose the screws and eventually forget them somewhere anyway. Last year I decided I was old enough to take on the responsibility of having a nice pair of sunglasses and realized that maybe I let my former sunglasses engage in such battle wounds because I always saw them as easy causalities. I figured they were cheap to begin with so who cares. Terrible on my part, I know. Anyhow, I got the idea in my mind that I wanted designer sunglasses and when I get an idea in my head I basically obsess about it until I get it or accomplish it. It’s part of the whole ‘type A’ personality thing. At times it can be ridiculous and exhausting but for the most part I’m left with a feeling a satisfaction. I run...

Sometimes I Pretend To Be a Rock Star

I have a split personality when it comes to my wardrobe. One side of me reflects the office fashion which basically makes me a walking advertisement for places like Banana Republic and Mexx. Now, don’t get me wrong. I love the classy business look. Sometimes classy attire screams “this bitch means business”. I love having that kind of power based on the outfit I wear. It’s so liberating. I started in the business that I’m in pretty young so I really felt the need to dress older so people would take me seriously. Isn’t that horrible? There are so many stereotypes out there. Just because you’re young it doesn’t mean you don’t know what you’re talking about. Sure, we don’t have the years of experience that seasoned veterans have, but we have amazing fresh new ideas and we aren’t afraid to take risks. We’re young, we still have time to mess up and make up for it. The other side of me, which is the side I wish I could be all of the time, is the rocker chick. This girl comes out on weekends ...
