The Young Victoria

It’s kind of ridiculous how much I LOVED this movie. I watched it twice…in the same day. It’s no secret that I love the British Royal family. I love the monarchy. I love being part of the commonwealth. I love it all. In fact – When Will and Kate get married I plan on taking the day off to watch the ceremony. Of course my dream would be to physically attend the wedding…but I doubt that would ever happen. Anyway…when the movie ended for the first time, I ran downstairs in a frenzy to find my Will to tell him all about it. I was tripping over my own words with the excitement of it all. I wanted someone else to watch it so I could talk to them about it. Eventually I, without too much persuasion, convinced one of my co-workers to watch it…AND….she LOVED it also. Now I have a partner in crime to talk to about it.

The Young Victoria stars Emily Blunt as Queen Victoria and Rupert Friend as Prince Albert and it really focuses on the love story between these two and honestly, it’s epic. The story begins at the point where Princess Victoria is only months away from being crowned the next Queen of England, who would also be the youngest queen – without a husband or children. Many people didn’t have faith in her abilities. They thought she was too young, too sheltered, too naïve. They hoped she would find a husband who would rule for her. Victoria was a stubborn woman. She wasn’t going to let anyone tell her what to do and she made that very clear even if some might have believed her to be cross or stern…but Albert…oh Albert…he could understand her. He loved her and eventually she realized that she loved him too.

I don’t want to tell you too much about this movie because I really want you watch it for yourself. Emily Blunt does such a fantastic job as Queen Victoria. Isn’t she just great in general? I want to be her friend.

It’s out on DVD now so go pick it up this weekend.

What am I listening too? Yup, still borderline obsessing on Band of Horses. Have yourself a slow dance to this one, I Go To The Barn Because I Like The: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vSjWUcQD-1M
