Music Pimping - Lissie

On my constant quest for new to me music I came across the artist known as Lissie. Um, Wow. I’ve been missing out and if you haven’t heard of her yet, then so have you. But fear not, this is why I’m here. Now we both know about her.

When you listen to her tracks there is one thing you will pick up on. The simplicity of her sound and the roughness to her voice makes her perfectly imperfect. Her deeply endearing lyrics float effortlessly from her lips transferring every emotion of the song straight to your core, fueling your soul with certainty and your mind with clarity. It would be impossible not to be moved from the sound of her voice. It’s chilling yet beautiful if that makes sense. As I roamed from track to track, each song showcased her phenomenal voice and song writing ability. There is something so completely natural about her. Nothing showy or over the top…only truth.

She’s got a country/rock/blues/folk thing going on, reminiscent of Stevie Nicks and maybe a hint of Janis Joplin. I’ve read a few profiles on her. Lissie seems to be one of those naturally gorgeous girls but a badass girl. And you know how much I love badass girls. Flaunt the talent, not the sugarpop, thank you very much.

When I daydream about being a singer/songwriter this is how I sound. The easy sound that every other ‘wanna be’ singer envies. It’s very real.

Lissie was another amazing artist who performed at the SXSW festival this year. Note to self – Must get to SXSW festival someday. She recently toured with City and Colour and is currently touring with Joshua Radin. Yup, tune in now, because she’s going places.

Now to the music sampling.

This song will get you. It’s called ‘Everywhere I go’. It’s hauntingly soulful. Don’t do anything else when you listen to this song. Close your eyes and enjoy it for what it is. You don’t want to miss what this song is going to give you.

‘Little Lovin’ let’s that devilish grin creep onto your face. It’s has a fantastic bluesy folk rhythm. Take a listen, you’ll know what I mean. It will make you want to have your Thelma and Louise moment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H90XghiW4RE

Check out Lissie’s version of Bad Romance here. This is a Lady Gaga cover. Love Lissie’s version. Love it! http://www.last.fm/music/Lissie/+videos/+1-MWe07krS8_E

Check out Lissie’s MySpace page to see her tour schedule. Hopefully you’ll get the chance to see her live. http://www.myspace.com/lissiemusic

  2. Thanks for sharing Charlee. Was browsing youtube and found Wedding Bells to be another gem of hers.

You should check out Ryan Bingham if you haven't already. Some friends have been taking about him and he happened to be performing on Austin City Limits last night. Amazing. He won an Oscar for Best Original Song this year for the song "The Weary Kind" from the movie "Crazy Heart." I haven't watched that movie but I plan to soon.
