Are You Popular?


It’s that time again. The nominations for the People’s Choice Awards were announced today. It’s no surprise that the Vampire genre which consists of True Blood, The Vampire Diaries and of course Twilight are leading the pack this year when it comes to Movies and TV shows.

They really should re-name it the Popular Choice Awards show. Sure, the “people” get the chose who they want to win, but that’s based on pre-selected nominees who have been part of either a top grossing film, a hugely rated TV show, or a top selling artist. Basically…the projects that bring in the most amount of cash get the nominations. It’s like a high school student council election. The popular kid always wins the vote. Everyone wants to be friends with the popular kid.

Let’s be real. If Slumdog Millionaire didn’t make all that money at the box office do you really think it would have won an Oscar? Probably not, and I’m not knocking Slumdog. I thought it was a brilliant movie. But it was an independent film that almost didn’t see the light of day. I’m so happy that Slumdog did get such great accolades. I wish more independent films got the praise that they deserved.

But that’s the way this business works. When you’re hot, you’re on top until someone knocks you off and the fans will follow that next “big star” or until you make what they will call a “comeback”. Brutal!
If anything, I’m sure the people that attend this event will enjoy the parties and all the free shit they get at those gift suites. I want free shit.

One Year No Radio

This week I’m celebrating my one year anniversary living without music radio. That’s right…I said celebrating. Don’t get me wrong, I still listen to music, and plenty of it…but since I removed the radio from my daily routine I am no longer bombarded with contests, terribly annoying advertisements, songs on far too high of a rotation or over the top excessive radio personalities. I do listen to the news radio station but only to receive traffic updates and road reports. Other than that…my life has been freed from it. I spend a lot of time in my car. A LOT. This is because I live in the burbs and have no choice but to commute. Honestly, I don’t mind the commute. It’s my ‘me’ time in the day. It’s the time when I do my best thinking. Good thinking requires music. Because music has the ability to make you think deeper. I love deep thinking. It’s cathartic. There was a time when the radio was very much needed. Unplug

Have you ever tried to kick your caffeine habit? Have you ever tried to leave your cell phone and computer at home when you go on vacation? I am attempting to do both. Recently, under a doctor’s recommendation, I have been advised to kick my caffeine addiction. I never really drank a ton of coffee I just really enjoy my one or two cups in the morning during the week day and my three or four cups on the weekends. The first week was the roughest. Honestly, I wanted to rip out of my own skin and start scaling the walls. I didn’t realize how addicted I was until I was forced to stop. I’ve never been a smoker but I imagine it’s kind of the same feeling. I’m on to caffeine free tea now. It’s a substitute I will have to live with for awhile.
